NAPT Foundation to offer workshop on school bus emissions reduction
Program to help K-12 schools comply with upcoming EPA regulations

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations call for new school buses to meet stricter emissions requirements beginning with model year 2007. However, without expert support, the majority of school districts nationwide will not have the funding or the technical ability to meet this deadline.

In response, the NAPT Foundation, a nonprofit group committed to promoting education in pupil transportation, will be hosting the first national workshop on Emissions Reduction Technology and Funding. The event will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2004 starting at 9:00 am at the Melville Marriott on Long Island, New York. Some of the nation's leading experts in pupil transportation will lead seminars designed to help schools develop migration strategies, focusing on their technical needs and funding requirements.

Topics for the event will include:

▪ 2007 Model Year School Bus Emission Reduction Technology Standards

▪ Retrofit Technology Available to Schools Today

▪ Funding Available to K-12 Districts

▪ School District Success Stories

▪ Assistance Available to Retrofit Existing K-12 Fleets

School administrators and educational consultants interested in attending the event can register in advance for only $25. A significant portion of the workshop's tuition for the seminar has been underwritten by several of the NAPT Foundation's corporate and individual donors.

School Bus Industry Leaders Donate Funding to Launch NAPT Foundation
Funding will support new "National School Bus Report Card" campaign

Two corporations have helped provide seed funding to launch the NAPT Foundation. School bus manufacturer International Bus and Truck Corporation donated $20,000, and New York regional school bus company Independent Coach donated $10,000 to provide the NAPT Foundation with seed money to help address issues impacting pupil transportation nationwide, including the new "National School Bus Report Card" campaign.

Founded in 2002, the NAPT Foundation is committed to increasing the number of children using school bus transportation nationwide, encouraging schools to acquire newer, safer and more environmentally-friendly vehicles and help schools acquire their fair share of state and federal transportation aid. The Foundation's first campaign, "The National School Bus Report Card" will examine states' funding commitments to pupil transportation, ages of school bus fleets and the percentage of children riding school buses.

NAPT Foundation President Mr. Robert Pape accepted the donations on behalf of the organization. Representing the donors were Mr. Thomas Cellitti of International Truck and Bus, and Mr. Nicholas Fabrizio of Independent Coach. “The Foundation was founded to provide educational opportunities for the school bus industry. Only through the generosity and long-term vision of people like Mr. Fabrizio and Mr. Cellitti is such an initiative possible, Mr. Pape stated.”
